Avengers (Vol. I) #98

Let Slip the Dogs of War

Avengers (Vol. I) #98After the events of the Kree/Skrull War, the Avengers regroup to compare notes. Firstly, the disappearance of Goliath is very troubling. Then, what to make of Mr. Tallon and the Warhawks, apparent troublemakers that are broadcasted on the media? What seem to be their purpose in wanting to start war... but on whom, exactly?

Future member Ares (yes, that Ares!) is the main trouble-maker here, as the stage will be soon set for a Avengers-Greek Gods confrontation. For some reason, Ares has always been a favorite of mine and has surprisingly few appearances in the Marvel Universe. There's a good fight scene here which seems to be involving some strange, mythological creatures. We can also deduce that the Vision is acting chairman for this period of time.

The absence of Clint Barton is taken very seriously and it's nice to witness some of the team members' reaction to it. But Clint is back as Hawkeye (in a new, awful costume), ditching the Goliath II identity (to which he'll come back very much later on). And... wouldn't you know it... Hercules makes a comeback too, as an amnesiac! A worthwhile issue.
