trying to break the bond that unites him with Rick Jones, Captain Marvel
has found a way to be free of the Negative Zone. This attracts the attention
of Annihilus. Meanwhile, in the Kree Galaxy, some events are brewing that
will put all on Earth in peril.
This is the beginning of the Avengers' first big saga and one of the most well-remembered epic of its time, maybe Roy Thomas' finest hour. Good to see Rick Jones back in these pages, with a reduced roster in action. Captain Marvel begins a relationship with the team, and he and Rick's peculiar bond is explained, which gives not any of us plans to make a holiday trip to the Negative Zone.
And Quicksilver plays high-speed chess against himself! So, this issue is
a good intro into the tale, but no great shakes itself.
