Avengers (Vol. I) #73
The Sting of the Serpent
The
Sons of the Serpent are back! And they're not pleased! By sheer coincidence,
the Black Panther returns from Africa to the Avengers. Why would the Serpents
strike through an innocent soul singer... and what does a television talk
show have to do with this?
First of all, we have a nice little recap from the Sons of the Serpent first appearance in these pages, which prompts a question: what happened to Bill Foster? It was still daring in 1970 to address racial issues in a comic book.
Still, the Avengers don't do much besides talking and standing around.
The Sons of the Serpent are a menace, but being mostly indistinguishable
from each other, we don't feel as threatened as we should. To say the
least, Monica Lynne will have an interesting relationship with the Panther.
But there's a little something missing here to make it successful.
