Avengers (Vol. I) #70

When Strikes the Squardon Sinister!

Avengers (Vol. I) #70Four Avengers are dispatched through time to fight against the Squardon Supreme, a quatuor of villains. Each team is under the command of two villains, Kang and the Grandmaster. Individual battles are taking places around the world, but oddly the involvement of the Black Knight in Goliath's duel with the Whizzer could spell major disaster to the outcome of this conflict.

Oh, Kang is in no mood to eat chicken legs (see first page!). The grand tradition of the Grandmaster's games has always been fun. The Squardon Sinister look like dangerous foes (them being adaptation of some of DC's greatest characters… think about it...) and wear interesting costumes (but I never did understood Nighthawk's beak). Don't overlook Cap making a speech on the Statue of Liberty (said venerable monument being soon kidnapped).

This Whizzer refers to the original heroic one of WWII as "an old comic book hero…". Once again, a meeting with the Black Knight goes wrong… and he promises to set things straight. This is a very enjoyable issue, with great battles and high drama. Too bad that some Avengers are stuck in the sidelines: we barely see the Wasp's face.
