Avengers (Vol. I) #64

Like A Death Ray from the Sky

Avengers (Vol. I) #64There's a new trio of super villains that want to rule the Earth or somesuch. One of them, Egghead, has special plans. A racketeer named Barney Barton comes to warn the Avengers as to their plan. An unexpected tie to one of the team's member is revealed. Our heroes must travel into space to thwart a nefarious and menacing scheme.

What was intended as a very emotional finale rings a bit hollow, as we only have a couple of comic book pages to care about a dying character. Still, we learn a tiny bit more about Goliath's past, but not that much. Also, we have here definitive proof that the Hawkeye identity is now gone.

Once again, the art lacks polish, as some male character's faces look the same from panel to panel. Some poorly-designed robots are no great help. For some reason, the Black Widow looks like an uptight librarian and the Wasp like some tomboy.

We must nevertheless salute Egghead's inexplicable weight loss...
