Avengers (Vol. I) #50

To Tame a Titan

Avengers (Vol. I) #50It's time to conclude the mystery that's going on in Olympus! Hercules is informed by his daddy Zeus of Typhon's plan of revenge. The cranky Titan now as the goal of invading the Earth and only a trio of tired Avengers are there awaiting for him. What will be Hercules' decision after the dust settles?

Yes, Ares, God of War, throws a fit and is put back in his place by Zeus. Believe it or not, Ares will become a future Avengers' member close to forty years after the publishing of this story! The Avengers will be encountering more Olympians in their future, sometimes as allies... sometimes not. The parting of Hercules with the Avengers still seems strange... but he was exiled in issue #38 for a full year, and this is issue #50! Ah, the joy of Marvel time!

This remains a good battle issue, with the stress of the remaining members very understandable. And once again, Buscema could depict madness and villainy in any character with an unbelievable skill: check out these Typhon's mad gazes. Bloodchilling. You wouldn't want to invite him for dinner soon, guaranteed.
