Avengers (Vol. I) #47
Magneto Walks the Earth
As
the majority of members of the Avengers seem more preoccupied with personal
matters, a new character named the Black Knight inadvertently brings back the
villainous Magneto and the Toad back to Earth, as the duo was exiled in outer
space. Soon the master of magnetism decides to reunite his Brotherhood of Evil
Mutants, wishing to bring back to the fold Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.
Now what was the point of making Hercules an Avenger to have him run off to Olympus soon after? And why the shaved beard, for that matter? Maybe to make him look more like the cartoon character that was playing on television around that time (but not connected to Marvel)?
Once again, it was great to
see Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch's past recognized in these pages, as
it only could predict a future encounter with the X-Men. The most evil-looking
Magneto of all time could be this one courtesy of penciller John Buscema: witness
these maniacal eyes under that helmet!
We are introduced to future member the Black Knight, who would soon have a special status among the team. More on him next issue.
For what it's worth, this is one of my favorite cover of the title.
