Avengers (Vol. I) #29
This Power Unleashed!
Goliath
and the Wasp decide to stay with the Avengers, in the hope of finding a cure
for Hank's condition, who could be forever stuck in a gigantic physical state.
Meanwhile, some former foes (Swordsman, Power Man) decide to band together
under the leadership of a brainwashed
Black
Widow,
Hawkeye
(former?)
amour.
A big
battle will ensue, planting the seed for more conflict to come.
A great, fast-paced issue. It's time for Goliath to wallow in self-pity because of his unfortunate physical condition (stuck now at a height of 10 feet). And who could guess here that the Black Widow and the Swordsman would join (or rejoin, in his case) the Avengers in the future? It's just a shame that Hawkeye and the Widow couldn't have been a couple more longer: they were one of the most fascinating in Marvel history. Hawkeye begins to change his ways around the team.
We can see here why the Swordsman was interesting in his villain days, always
portrayed as dangerous, but extremely intelligent in his analysis of situations.
He claims that he thought Hawkeye everything he knows and can, oddly, get into
the Mansion with ease (a lack in security measures?).
The teamwork of the Avengers as a fighting unit is not so impressive here, as the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are embarrassingly useless... and the Wasp is nearly defeated by a sparrow!
