Avengers (Vol. I) #25
Enter... Dr. Doom!
Latveria's
favorite poster boy, Doctor Victor Von Doom, has a new scheme. Having enough
of getting his metallic behind kicked by the Fantastic Four, he now plans to
defeat the Avengers, thusly resulting in planting the seeds of fear into the
hearts of Reed Richards and his teamates. The Avengers travel to Latveria after
receiving a bogus letter supposedly sent by Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch's
long-lost aunt. Or is that one of Ant-Man's ant (ha ha)?
Would you like to be member of a super-team that had consecutive confrontations with Kang and Dr. Doom? As Cap continues swimming in self-pity and the Scarlet Witch begins to realize her feelings for him, Hawkeye goes through self-analysis, wondering why he so alienate others with his temper, even finally admitting to himself that he's a loud-mouth. Very satisfying to see him almost melting Doom's armor, too. But it's very odd to note that the Avengers don't even remember (or know) that Latveria is ruled by Doom...?!?!
And also included is an interesting mini-subplot of the Fantastic Four being
denied permission to help out the Avengers in Latveria, because of the danger
of creating an international incident. Isn't Doom's vanity endless? He's almost
beaten by the Avengers and cannot concede victory. A interesting tale, with
an excellent display of teamwork. Oh, and three television shows are mentioned:
Ed Sullivan, The Munsters and 77 Sunset Strip!
The team can be seen next in the Captain America story of Tales of Suspense #72.
