Avengers (Vol. I) #17
Four Against the Minotaur!
At Iron Man's previous suggestion, the new team tries to contact the Hulk,
to bring him back to the fold and thus give more power to the Avengers. They
are soon menaced by a revengeful Mole Man. In trying to thwart him in his
underground lair, the new Avengers are confronted by a giant beast named the
Minotaur and Quicksilver is kidnapped. How will they handle their first official
mission?
This is quite an ordinary story, but is still a good debut for the new quartet. Already, the diverse personalities are in place and some good arguments are to be expected. The presence of the Hulk is nothing more than a cameo and the Minotaur is surely not a memorable monster. And the Avengers can't still arrest the main villain! Will this curse never end? We see more of the secret training place in the Mansion and note how the Scarlet Witch doesn't mind the manly presence of Captain America...
Strange to witness Quicksilver all panicky after seeing the Minotaur in a
cave. Since this story is quite thin, there's a majority of pages with big
panels, as if the script wasn't substantial enough (which it is).
This issue can be read conjointly with Tales to Astonish #69. After this, we can see the team in Journey Into Mystery #120, when Thor briefly meets the recruits for the first time.
