Avengers (Vol. I) #12
This Hostage Earth!
The
Mole Man wants to destroy the Earth, in order to rule over it soon after (?).
He can now use some new gizmo that could be able to vibrate anything
on the surface. Some nervous ants inform Giant-Man of that matter and when
he calls an emergency meeting of the Avengers, his comrades won't take him
seriously. Giant-Man, insulted, goes to investigate on his own and gets captured.
Soon after, strange tremors affect the surface world and the Avengers regret
having mocked the Master of Many Sizes... Can they rescue Giant-Man and put
an end to the Mole Man's menace (who's now helped by the near useless Red
Ghost)?
Another action-packed issue, though the Mole Man's plan is routine and the presence of the Red Ghost is like an afterthought (and these subterranean fellows are a sad-looking lot, that's for sure). But once again, the Avengers can't properly seize their foes to arrest them. At least, we can attest that Giant-Man doesn't lack courage and takes his fellow ants very seriously.
The Maria Stark Foundation is not on the scene yet (in the future, it will
be the team's major financial backer), as the Wasp mentions a petty cash fund!
One goon present here, Monk, will become the first Ape-Man in Daredevil #10.
Here, the Wasp is seen as chairperson for the first time and her expanding role is very welcome. Nice to see Thor all nerve-wrecked over his conflict with Giant-Man; the two have an interesting bickering scene. The image-projector device is back from issue #3. This team moves like a well-oiled machine!
